I have to start by saying how lucky I feel to have an awesome first month back in school. Joining a masters program was a huge accomplishment for me because I doubted I was going to get accepted to any program. I can’t believe we are one month into the semester and having a much different experience that I thought I would have. Classes are taking up my almost all my spare time! However, it is almost always because I find myself getting sucked into the work and doing more research and readings related to the class material. The courses are truly invoking an intrinsic motivation to lead more about our field.
This week we had the assignment of looking up potential employment in our field of instructional design and it was genuinely a fun exercise. I got lost reading about all the possible position that an instructional designer is capable of, looking at some of the salaries was also motivating. I thought I was sure about the position I wanted to pursue this degree but this week opened my eyes to more possibilities. Seeing all the positions available for ID related fields showed me how much technology is incorporating itself into our lives and how essential those who can navigate it are. Funny thing, I even saw an advertisement in social media about a company that can “make employee training fun” I know it was most likely a targeted add because of my search history but it was cool to see the normalization of instructional design and technology in my everyday life.
With all that being said, if time is melting away because I am getting sucked into articles and videos related to our coursework, it feels like reassurance that I am pursuing the right field
