Post four!
I have always the type of person to really immerse myself in new research or new hobbies. I love learning about new things when they interest me. Even when shopping I will become a professional in any thinking I am considering purchasing, especially technology! Luckily for me, some of the classes are engaging and provide intrinsic motivation to get through the readings and activities. This module was very interesting about learning theories. The idea of learning about learning has always been so interesting to me.
The first thing I enjoyed reading about was the distinguishing of learning and development and changes in ability. It seems common sense after reading that they are different but it is not something that had actually crossed my mind before seeing it in the readings. I like reading about different learning theories but the one I liked the most was cognitive information processing theory. I am doing a project on this theory and am not sure if it is because I understand it or know a little more about that I like it more. However, the Idea of two channels for learning and that they have limits was also something That just sounds so common sense but again, had never crossed my mind. I think simplified it would be like looking at many screens at once, you can only process a limited amount of information. The same applies to the audio channel, you can listen to many different audio inputs but can only register a limited amount. As an instructional designer, it seems like an extremely critical principle to recognize because long-term knowledge transfer is the main goal. This theory has taught me that understanding limitations of the learner is essential when designing instructional material that effective.
